7th Grade Art seeks to provide students with foundational concepts in Visual Art as well as practical skills in the craft of creating art.  Some concepts and skills to be addressed are: drawing realistically - what we truly see, not what we imagine we see; the theory of color and how an artist strategically uses it; effective visual communication of an idea; realistic, abstract, non-objective art styles; and thoughtful critique of a work based on established criteria.

Mediums we work with include: graphite, colored pencil, ink, tempera paint, acrylic paint, collage/mixed media, chalk pastel, oil pastel and clay.

The purpose of Art Club is to provide community for the young artists of Hastings Middle School.  It can be challenging, learning to find your voice and express your ideas through art.  The Art Club is a group that will show you support as you stretch your creativity and challenge yourself to grow as an artist.

Together, the Art Club works to encourage creativity in other students and to use our artistic talents to bring color and beauty to our campus.

We love helpers!  And there are many ways to get involved with the HMS Art Room.  You can donate supplies, volunteer time at shows, chaperone trips to museums and shows, or even drop in for a visit in the classroom.  Or if you have another idea, please send a message.

The link above will take you to a page listing ways we currently need help.  Thank you in advance for your support!

As the visual arts are about expression and communication, it is important that students experience their artwork on display for others to see.   We have various exhibits throughout the year:  the Hastings Area Schools Spring Art Show and ongoing displays at State Grounds Coffee Shop are two regular venues.

We hope to add more shows in the future!
